I really reached the base stage of the guard and thought "oh im feeling kinda out of it maybe i won't do the decorations today"

I really thought.

Wham bam basically finished the base of the guard minus the fancy ring part and the part that connects that to the back.

Proceeded to break a really good cup and hang a mirror so all in all, a mid day. - KYS

anyways not much, coloured the hilt/grip using a metric ton of watercolour pigment. Finished off the sash with more of the fabric, just layering and draping it into a sphere. Guard updates coming soon. - KYS

  • blade
  • handle
  • tassel

had to experiment with the tassel a bit, since it's not a natural fibre it did NOT react to bleach at all. The solution was a bunch of waxed chalk, since it would stay in pretty nicely and give it that ghostly look. I'd love if it would show up more clearly, but I'll take this over my other ideas. the hilt was a pain to put together, but I'm pleased with the end result, and the grip is a shape I'm satisfied with.

Hopefully I can figure out the guard and the eye soon, I've got my eye on a pringles can lid that is the perfect size. - KYS

Cannot believe i'm back to making swords what is this sorcery

iu_1403934_9595225.webp

the absolute clownf*ckery i'm going through to make him real is amazing. Honedge is canonically 80cm tall, so I blew up an image of him onto a grid and then scaled it to real size on a screen, taped a whole bunch of newspaper to it and traced.

iu_1403935_9595225.webp

don't know how clear it is in the photos, but i'm making him in two sections; the blade and the guard. honedge is supposed to be able to unsheathe , which raises complication for the eyeball. I want the guard to fit perfectly over the eye, but I also want a little bit of a bubble when making it. So far I have a plan for every single material for the blade without having to buy anything fancy like metallic spray paint(its so fun to use but expensive).

Duct tape metal it is.

My ceiling leaked at 12AM last night so when the repair guy was inspecting my walls I got to work cutting out the skirt pattern and then commandeered my roommate's room for the night. Most of the skirt is done, just some stuff to attach to the waistband, the hem, and a hook and eye for the top of the zipper.

iu_1399545_9595225.webp

Loving the shape of it, the original pattern was just straight down, which was not what I wanted so I tapered it on each side when doing the side seams.

I also just wanted to remember this baller pasta I made afterwards.

Day 2 of updatesssss

iu_1399123_9595225.webp

After a considerable amount of binging with babish, the hem got hemmed, and the buttons got buttoned

I really did not want to do buttonholes cause i think i forgot to get a buttonhole foot or i packed the wrong one when i moved, no worries, i find solutions. Hand done buttonholes were out of the question because of how flimsy the fabric is despite having interfacing, so i opted for snaps. It allowed me to keep a more cartoony button look, and also when i undo them they made a fun popping sound, not that I would take my shirt off at a convention halcon and fanexpo don't sue me please

iu_1399124_9595225.webp

I also had to add a strip of the lighter purple to one side of the shirt cause i realized only now that both of pauling's plackets were coloured that way.

The skirt is also not the final skirt, but is the pattern I will be using, plus about another 7 inches to be more in line with my drawing and the canonical skirt length in the comics. In fan art the skirt tends to be a lot shorter, coming to above the knee but in the comic series and official renderings, it hits below the knee.

iu_1399125_9595225.webp

I'm going to be making the skirt from this nice, dark blue watered silk??? I don't actually check my fabrics a lot of the time, as long as it has the right drape and colour I'm going to use it, but I will do a burn test before documenting this cosplay. Nothing special about this skirt, the waistband is flipped to the inside, there's a mitred vent in the back(which I think is very fitting for Miss Pauling with the amount of movement she does on a regular basis), unfortunately no pockets. I might add them if I feel like it, just because I like having a place to put my phone all the time, but I also love the streamlined look of the skirt on its own, and because it has no lining and is very close fitting, It would be seen very easily and I don't know if I want that.

I'm considering making a briefcase to go with the final cosplay. B)

I promised myself id start a cosplay channel and then never did cause I could just post blogposts about my sewing from the comfort of my couch

iu_1396371_9595225.webp

a lot of projects start with an initial sketch, which would have been my drawing from last year when I did the drawing a day Meet the Team and Meet the Extras

so i decided to make a new one that followed more of a fashion croquis style

iu_1396372_9595225.webp

the colours didn't go as deep as I would have liked but an attempt was made.

catch yall on the flipside- KYS

Realizing i'm leagues happier with posting even just parts of my face on platforms that aren't instagram or twitter.

Most pieces are either made by me/friends or founds at some point.

Going to indulge more in dressing the way I want soon.
